Do I need a dry eye treatment?
Yes if I have :
- Meibomian gland loss
- Eyelid margin teleangiectasia (abnormal small vessels)
- Presence of a parasite (Demodex Follicurum) at the base of the eyelashes
- Inflammation signs on the ocular surface
Why do I need it?
- To prevent irreversible damage to the ocular surface and eyelid margins
- So that the pathology doesn’t evolve into the inflammatory cycle (between the tears and the ocular surface). At that point, the disease is much harder to control.
Evaluation
The dry eye evaluation is a thorough analysis of your eyes (eyelids, ocular surface, glands and eyelashes) and your symptoms. In 1 hour, we take the time to answer all of your questions and establish a treatment plan.
You can be referred by your optometrist to do a dry eye evaluation or you can book directly. Following an eye exam at Philémon, we could recommend you to do the dry eye evaluation as well.
IPL Treatment
IPL is a cheeks and eyelids treatment with intense flashes of light (not a laser) that target chromophore pigments in vessels, te selectively destroy eyelid teleangiectasias (abnormal fine vesses on the eyelid margin). IPL also has anti-inflammatory effects and stimulates tear secretion. Our IPL is gel free. A standard treatment is 4 visits.
LLLT Treatment (Low-Level-Light Therapy)
LLLT is mask of red LEDs (sometimes combined with a blue mask with bacterial or demodex blepharitis) that stimulates Meibomian gland function by acting on the mitochondria of the producing cells. The heat generated by the process also melts the meibum. A standard treatment is 4 visits.
Lipiflow Treatment
Lipiflow is a thermal Meibomian gland expression treatment that uses activators placed on the eye surface underneath the eyelids (like contact lenses). While low heat is applied on the glands, a light massage is applied on the eyelids. A treatment is one session lasting 12 minutes.
Blepharoexfoliation Treatment
Blepharoexfoliation is the cleaning of the eyelash base and eyelid margin to remove lash secretions and biofilm that block the Meibomian gland openings. Can be done alone, but is included in the first session of all of our treatments.
